Payment Options

IRS Payment Options

If you owe federal tax and do not wish to mail a check, the IRS offers several electronic options that may better suit your needs. Below are links to the different electronic payment options the IRS offers.

  • Debit or Credit Card - the IRS offers a secure way for you to pay via internet, phone, or mobile device with your debit or credit card. There is a processing fee that will vary depending on the service provider and amount being paid. 

  • Direct Pay - the IRS offers a free secure service for you to pay your Individual Form 1040, estimated taxes, and other similar forms directly from your savings or checking account. 

  • Electronic Federal Tax Payment System - a free, secure, and convenient system that is available for both individuals and businesses. After an enrollment process, you will be able to pay taxes online or by phone. 

  • Check or Money Order - you may still mail your payments in via check or money order, be sure to follow the instructions on the link.

  • Electronic Funds Withdrawal - this option is only available when filing your tax return. Notify your tax preparer that you would like to partake in this process prior to signing e-file authorization forms and provide your tax preparer with up-to-date bank account information.

 

New York State Payment Options

The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance offers several payment options including electronic payment platforms. Below are links for the various payment options.

  • Quick Pay - a free and secure service that allows you to pay directly from a checking or savings account. You will need the case number from your bill or notice as well as information from an income tax return for one of the last four years.

  • Online Services Account - log in or create an account that will allow you to view your New York State tax account. Once active you will be able to: pay bills and notices, respond to notices, schedule payments, and much more.

  • Credit and Debit Card Payment - pay bills, notices, and other amounts owed with your credit or debit card. A convenience fee may be charged for your payment depending on the provider you use.

  • Check or Money Order - a traditional check or money may be mailed to the New York Department of Taxation and Finance.
